I would start by getting children to identify the sounds and practise blending them together on the side with just the letters showing. They can then lift the flaps in order from left to right, again saying the sounds, to reveal the pictures and check whether they were correct. If your child is struggling with blending one of the things you can try is starting the word with continuous consonant
