Today we remember a rescue that became the greatest loss of crew from a single rescue effort in the RNLI's history. It serves as a stark reminder of the selflessness of our crews that remains to this day. | RNLI

The Coastguard Rescue 900 helicopter team, based in Sumburgh, joined the RNLI Lerwick Lifeboat crew for a joint training session south of Lerwick Harbour. During the session, the RNLI crew practiced helicopter operations at sea through a winching exercise. This involved using a hi-line to safely guide the winch paramedic on and off the lifeboat’s deck. The session gave both crews the opportunity to further develop and refine the skills they rely on when responding to emergencies in all condition
