Apparently, several fans believe that the ending we saw in Episode 8 was "fake." The community thinks that Netflix is planning to drop a "secret episode" on January 12.

Stranger Things' series finale Season 5, Episode 8, "Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up" landed on Netflix on December 31, 2025, but a subsection of fans are simply not convinced this was the series' actual ending.

It now has been revealed that is in fac "Purple Rain" by Prince. The song plays as El and Mike say goodbye to the each other in the finale. While we may never know El's exact fate, we do know that the Duffers revealed to Tudum, " [Prince’s] estate does not generally allow that song to be licensed outside the Purple Rain movie."
